This Big County Solo Exhibition

This Big County Flyer

In March 2026, I exhibited my work in the Barlow Room, located in the Royal Hotel’s annex building. The space is a clean, modern gallery with polished concrete floors, white walls, strong lighting, and large windows that invite people in from the street.

The show featured seven paintings from my County series, along with a new 7x3 foot piece of Base31 that I finished for the opening. Seeing the work in that setting gave it a different presence, especially being so connected to the local area. I was in the gallery every Friday to Sunday from 10 to 3, which made the experience more interactive.

Over the month, I met a mix of local artists, art lovers, and hotel guests, and had a lot of conversations about the work, ideas, and process. One of the standout pieces was a 4x5 foot painting of Picton Main Street featuring the Royal Hotel. People often found themselves looking at a painting of the place they were staying in, which sparked some great interactions. Spending time in the space with the work gave me a better sense of how people connect with it.
