Point to Cross was created during a week-long studio residency at the County Arts Lab in Picton. The dedicated time and creative space allowed me to take on one of my largest paintings to date — a street-level view of Picton’s Main Street intersection at night. I’m grateful to the team at County Arts for supporting this project, and to the Picton Branch Library for displaying the finished piece just steps away from the very corner it depicts.
This painting captures a quiet, cinematic moment — headlights reflecting off wet pavement, storefronts glowing in the dark, and that split second before deciding to cross the street. It was painted entirely with acrylics using a limited palette of black, white, and amber tones to highlight contrast, light, and atmosphere. At 8 feet by 8 feet, the work is designed to pull you into the scene and make you feel as though you’re standing there yourself.
This piece is part of my ongoing effort to reimagine everyday spaces through bold, expressive strokes and large-scale formats. It reflects both my connection to Prince Edward County and my interest in transforming the familiar into something worth pausing for.
A time-lapse video of the painting process is available below, showing the piece come to life layer by layer.
